The Adirondack Park is located in Upstate New York. Created in 1892 by the State of New York in order to protect the water and timber resources of the region, it comprises 6 million acres and is the Nation’s largest publicly protected area in the continental U.S. It is larger in size than Yellowstone, Everglades, Glacier, and Grand Canyon National Park combined. The Park is constitutionally protected to remain a ‘forever wild’ forest preserve. The remaining half of the Park is private land which includes settlements, farms, timberlands, businesses, homes, and camps.

Old Forge and Surrounding Area Amenities & Activities:

Old Forge is located in the Southwestern part of the Adirondack Park and is at the beginning of the Fulton Chain of Lakes. A year round resort, the area offers something for everyone. The winter season brings a winter wonderland to the area with skiing at McCauley Mountain, numerous nordic ski trails, ice skating, and a snowmobile system of over 500 miles. Spring and summer months offer opportunities for hiking, mountain climbing, trail and street biking, horseback riding, tennis, golf, bird watching, swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, waterskiing, white water rafting and jet skiing. The area is renowned for the spectacular explosion of color that the fall season brings.
